My Great Strides Story
Greetings, I hope you are looking forward to a summer of family fun and travel. It is also the time of year for the Cystic Firbosis Foundation Great Strides program from coast to coast. This year in honor of our grandson Greyson who lives with CF, I am participating in five Great strides events. This elevates Team Super G to a National Team.
Greyson who turns eight this summer, is in second grade (Go Little Cedars Wolverines) experiencing good health in the past year except for multiple visits to Children’s Hospital-Seattle for clinic visits and checkups. He is vigilant in taking his medications 25-30 pills per day and along with chest therapy for a minimum of 20 minutes two times a day. Greyson just started his third year of Little League baseball after completing his tumbling class.
Greyson was diagnosed with CF at birth and started therapeutic treatments immediately. We are fortunate his gene mutation allows him to take Trikafta, a milestone drug which is increasing life expectancy for those living with CF. Due to the efforts of the CF Foundation CF fighters are now living longer productive lives allowing them to plan marriages, have children, and now happily facing the challenge of planning for retirement. In the 1980’s few CF patients lived beyond their teens and now thanks to the CF Foundation they are living productive lives well into their fifties!
There is no cure for CF but with the continued research in genetic therapies funded by the CF Foundation there are high hopes of finding a cure for CF in the coming years. That is why I “stride” - until CF stands for CURE Found.
Please consider joining Team Super G and me as we stride for the cure in four cities across Washington State. It would be a joy to have you join us at one of the Great Stride events. There is no entry fee although I am raising funds, and a donation of any amount will help to find a true cure for Greyson and tens of thousands of those suffering from this life threating disease.
