This is yet another letter from the Thomas family asking for your support for the Great Strides Walk to Cure Cystic Fibrosis (CF). We have asked year after year, hoping that you would understand our need to ask and our heartfelt gratitude for the many acts of kindness, loving prayers and years of support for our family and this cause. We are at a pivotal moment in the history of cystic fibrosis and your support has really made a difference in helping to get us there.
Over the past year, CF researchers have been testing a new triple combination therapy which adds a third drug to the current double combination therapy (Symdeco) that Ella is presently taking. Late stage clinical trials were just announced in early March showing a 10% improvement in lung function after 28 days over those who receiving Symdeco!! We are hopeful that the FDA will approve this therapy sometime next year.
Ella has refused to let CF define her life in any way. She has almost completed her first year of college and has managed to stay on top of her therapies, medications and academics, while fitting in a lot of other activities! She is pictured here doing trail restoration work in California on her spring break. Ella is still trying to decide on her major but with so many options and a future so bright, who can blame her for having a hard time deciding?
The walk is on May 18 and if you can support the Ella K team this year, you may do so by simply clicking the "Donate To A Team Member" button above. It's that simple! With on-line donations you will receive a confirmation and receipt via email. One more option, the best one yet. You may also join the Ella K team and do some of your own fundraising. All we need you to do to become a member of our team is click on the "Join our Team" button. From there you can make a donation and start your fundraising. Your support in any amount is and always will be deeply appreciated.
Important note on Attendance at Foundation Events:
Infections can exacerbate CF symptoms and worsen lung function, so we ask attendees at Foundation-sponsored events to observe the following best practices to reduce the risk of germ transmission:
Regularly wash hands with soap and water or with an alcohol-based hand gel.
Cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue or your inner elbow.
Maintain a safe 6-foot distance from anyone with a cold or infection.
To further reduce the risk of cross-infection, the Foundation’s attendance policy recommends that all people with CF maintain a safe 6-foot distance from each other at all times while attending an outdoor Foundation-sponsored event. All Great Strides walks are non-smoking events.
