Dear Friends and Family,
This year marks Team Hopefulones 24th year Striding for a Cure for Cystic Fibrosis! Thanks to your help, we have raised more than $675,000…and it has made a huge difference to Colin and the thousands of others living with cystic fibrosis!
With access to the landmark drug Trikafta, Colin has been able to suspend two time-consuming therapies each day while maintaining his excellent lung function and avoiding infections. This drug, along with vaccinations, helped Colin come through CoVid with only mild, flu-like symptoms for a few days. You might imagine how nervous we were for Colin during the pandemic.
So, thank you for the huge advances in treatment that you have helped make possible! And yet, the work is not done. CF Foundation funded research continues in five major categories :
- Restoring CFTR Function (correcting the basic cellular defect in CF)
- Mucociliary Clearance (helping clear the thick, sticky mucus in the lungs of people with CF)
- Anti-Inflammatory (people with CF often have chronic inflammation of the lungs)
- Anti-Infective (people with CF are prone to infections because of the thick, sticky mucus in their airways)
- Nutritional-Gastro-Intestinal (people with CF can experience complication with absorption of nutrients leading to malnutrition)
As an example, just days ago, the CF Foundation awarded $1 million to a bio-tech company to develop a “phage” therapy to treat chronic Pseudomonas aeruginosa infections in people with CF. Phases are specialized viruses that kill very specific bacterial strains.
Will you join us once again as we continue the search for a cure? Your donation will help ensure that Colin and people with CF like him will continue to face into a hopeful, healthy future.
You can make a secure online donation here, or mail a check made payable to “Cystic Fibrosis Foundation” to John, Claire, Colin Fenner at 134 Parkview Drive, Brevard, NC 28712.
Thank you for your support!
With love,
John, Claire, Colin Fenner
