Spring 2022
She’s here! She’s here!! Welcome to Roxanna Kelly Brenton, ROXIE for short! Born July 7, 2021 and she is the love of our lives. She’s healthy and curious and contemplative and beautiful. I have a full photo album if you’re interested!! Nick and Kendra are such attentive, loving parents; my heart bursts when I watch them. Nick’s paternity leave of 4 months just ended; Kendra is working as hospital nurse at 75%, meaning full benefits, two nights one week, three the next. Her mom has also gone part time so she will watch Roxie Thur, Fri. and we go to Durham one week a month. Nick and Kendra bought a new house, a “grown-up” house I call it; Tim and I have our own suite!! Same floor as Roxie so we keep the baby monitor and get to see her smiling, giggling face each morning. Did I mention I was in love?
Back to business!! We will always fundraise for Cystic Fibrosis because a). it’s not cured, b) it’s still claiming lives, and c). adults with CF have an array of rather unknown challenges ahead. Nick is “lucky” to have the CF mutation that responded so well to the new Trikafta drug. Thousands of other kids and adults are not responding. Nick still does his airway clearance twice daily, does the inhaled saline, takes enzymes every meal, snack, takes other meds as needed. His recent lung function test was STELLAR! His previous was 29% and last month it was 49%! Halleluiah!! No lung transplant list for him!
Joseph and Abbi did have their beautiful, outdoor wedding at a NC vineyard October, 2021. Worth the wait. Such a delightful soiree. They bought a home on a tributary to the French Broad River; two acres of fly-fishing opportunities!! Abbi is a pro (actually) and is teaching Joe. Joseph is excelling at selling good bugs to eat bad bugs with Koppert Biologics and Abbi has a new, awesome job developing marketing strategies for beverage companies with a VT based company. Both can still work from home with splashes of travel.
Tim and I are getting more comfortable with traveling and being in small groups. Took a Viking cruise through Panama Canal – tremendous. I’m planning to attend a French immersion five week course in Nova Scotia in May/June. Tim is still deciding how to spend his five week bachelorhood.
Bless you and thank you for your past and, if possible, current donations to make CF stand for Cure Found. Help us keep fighting this disease until no one ever suffers from it again.
And may you stay Forever Young (mother/son dance at Joseph’s wedding!),
Love,
Barbara, Tim, Joseph, Abbi, Nicholas, Kendra, and the star of the family, ROXIE!!
