Hey friends and family,
Welcome to 2020! The year of HUH?!?!?!?! We have all been forced to make changes to our lives, with both positive and negative impacts. One thing I have noticed now more than ever is the resolve in those around me. I’m hopeful that we will continue to be able to see the good in all that is happening and hope that we all can continue to be safe and healthy (especially as school gets started!).
Brandon, Trey and I have all been home together since March 13th and yes, as you can imagine, it has been interesting to have two adults working full time plus an eight-year-old attempting to continue school all under one roof. It has taken quite a bit of creativity on our end! One highlight is our impromptu RV trip across the country to the Grand Tetons, Yellowstone and Mount Rushmore. Even across the country we found people respecting others by wearing masks and keeping distance – it was refreshing. It was two weeks together in an RV, seeing amazing sights and incredible wildlife, but we were glad to get back home to our own beds and showers.
Many of us have had to get creative during this unprecedented time. Brandon and I are both fortunate to get to keep our jobs and work remotely from the house. I have been blown away by the generosity and security of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation – even more so than ever before. I am approaching ten years with the CF Foundation this November, and when I started in 2010 there were only symptomatic medicines for cystic fibrosis, and less than half of those with CF were over the age of 18 due to a low median age of survival. Today we have four therapies that are FDA approved that address the underlying cause of cystic fibrosis helping close to 90% of the CF population. A child born today with CF is given a full life span expectancy rather than parents being told their child has a death sentence. All of this is because of people like you and me that have advocated for and donated to the CF Foundation.
When it comes to the mission of the CF Foundation, this year is no different. There will be a cure for cystic fibrosis in my lifetime, and I cannot wait to be at that finish line celebration. Plus, 2020 is the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s 65th anniversary, and we have a goal to raise $65 million in honor and celebration of this milestone anniversary by the end of 2020. I am doing my part by raising money for our virtual Stride Across Tennessee effort – a 65-day challenge to virtually walk around the state and raise $265,000.
Our family has set a goal to raise $1,650 and walk 650 collective miles by October 5th. Will you support us with a donation? No amount is too large or too small – however I would love to suggest a $65 donation in honor of our 65th anniversary. Your gift is 100% tax-deductible.
