On Saturday, May 14th, Mike and I will participate in the Great Strides walk at Impact Pharmaceuticals in Durham, North Carolina. After two years, we're going back to in-person and we can't wait! We're walking for our beautiful daughter, Angelica, and to support those living with Cystic Fibrosis (CF).
I am writing to invite you to walk with us and/or make a donation to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation on behalf of Angelica. Angelica is a junior at UC San Diego studying Human Biology. Outside of her classes, she works at a lab at the Salk Institute researching immune infiltration in pancreatic cancer. After graduation, she wants to go to grad school to get her PhD in Biology and continue making an impact in cancer research. She still loves to run, hike, go to the beautiful beaches in La Jolla, and do anything outdoors with her friends.
Mike and I are thankful that her health is great. She continues to take her medication and does her vest to clear any mucus from her lungs. She has been in Trikafta for two and a half years, which has kept her lung function up. You'll recall that Trikafta is the first triple combination therapy to treat patients with CF. The money raised will go towards research for new therapies for those living with CF.
There are still 10% of patients who have a rare CF gene mutation, and they are waiting for a medication that will treat their particular mutation. So, just because Angelica has something to keep her healthy, we're also fighting for those who are still waiting.
The CF Foundation’s mission is to cure CF and provide all people with CF the best opportunity to lead long, fulfilling lives. And obviously, that’s my goal too; to ultimately find a cure for my beautiful angel, Angelica, and everyone living with this fatal disease. I hope you will support me.
