It’s hard to believe that in just a few short weeks, we will be gathering in Durham to celebrate the Great Strides Walk for Cystic Fibrosis that takes place on May 14th. This will be our 18th year walking as proud members of “The A Team” in support of Hailey’s good friend Ally Nichting and we would love your help in getting us closer to a cure!
In September of 2019, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved Trikafta, the first triple combination therapy available to treat patients ages 12 years and older who have at least one copy of the F508del mutation in the cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) gene, which is estimated to represent 90% of the cystic fibrosis population. Allison was approved for the medication and began taking it in late October of that year. Since starting Trikafta, Allison has been very healthy with no hospitalizations and very few viruses requiring medication. It’s truly been a game changer for her and so many others with CF.
Allison is a Junior at the University of South Carolina where she is majoring in Nursing and will begin her clinicals in August. She is passionate about her path in nursing and excited to be able to give back! She loves college life and is managing her health very well with her regimen of daily vest treatments, breathing treatments and oral medications throughout the day. We had the privilege of spending Easter weekend with her and she is truly amazing – we are so very lucky to be a part of her journey!
Since her diagnosis in March of 2021, it’s been remarkable to see the advancements made possible because of your support! I have set a goal to raise $1500 this year and would love your help reaching or exceeding this goal! Please click on the link below to make a donation or join our team. We are truly making great strides for a cure! Thank you.
