Robert Miller Goolsby was born on February 9th, 2018. Within 24 hours, Miller's little body presented with some health concerns that led to a hospital transfer and placed him in the Intensive Care Nursery at Duke University Hospital. The next few days were filled with uncertainty, watching, waiting, and testing. At one week old, tests confirmed that Miller had cystic fibrosis.
Miller's first Great Strides was 2 years ago. He had endured 3 surgeries and a 76 day NICU stay and we were still learning about this disease and what it meant for Miller, our family, and our community. We were just beginning to understand the importance of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation's work and the impact this organization has on those who are touched by CF. The overwhelming support we have received during this event the past 2 years has been a true blessing - highlighting both the sheer size of Miller's community and affirming our knowledge that we can make a real difference in Miller's life and in the lives of all those who are affected by CF.
We walk to celebrate Miller's life and the lives of others living with CF. We would be thrilled for you to consider donating and joining us at this event. Your donations and presence truly make a difference. There is no way to succinctly capture the full impact that the CF Foundation has had on the present and future of this disease. Within the last decade, research funded by the CF Foundation has led to the discovery and development of an entire new class of medications that works to correct the root cause of this disease. Within the last 2 years, the first generation of these revolutionary drugs has been made available to children as young as 2 years old. For the first time in history, children are able to fight the disease itself and not just symptoms. The future for those with CF is magnitudes brighter today than it has ever been before, and it is getting brighter every day, primarily through the research that the CF Foundation makes possible. We stride until CF stands for Cure Found. Great Strides is a fun, family-friendly event that raises awareness and support for people with CF and their families.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, indoor events sponsored by the CF Foundation are strictly prohibited at this time. Scheduled outdoor events must adhere to strict requirements to minimize the risk of COVID-19 infection. Events may be subject to change at any time based on guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and local health officials.
IMPORTANT NOTE ON ATTENDANCE AT OUTDOOR FOUNDATION EVENTS:
To minimize the risk of COVID-19 infection, attendees at CF Foundation events must adhere to the following requirements:

(Note, children under two years of age should not wear masks due to safety concerns and therefore should not attend CF Foundation events where there is risk of interacting with someone outside of their household.)

Persons with CF should consult their physician before participation in any in-person event as they may be at an increased risk for severe illness from COVID-19. People with CF should maintain a safe 6-foot distance from persons outside of their household at all times.
