Dallas was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis at 5 weeks old after weeks of various testing. Cystic fibrosis is a genetic illness affecting mostly the lungs but also the pancreas and other organs. It is a chronic, life-shortening illness. He is on multiple daily breathing treatments to preserve his lung function. He also has pancreatic insufficiency related to CF which prevents his body from adequately absorbing fat, protein and vitamins so he takes pancreatic enzymes with every meal or snack leading to a total of 20 capsules per day. Dallas has been hospitalized two times as a result of CF and pulmonary exacerbations requiring IV medications and lengthy hospital stays. Needless to say CF is an expensive disease. Although he has already been through so much in his short life because of CF we are so thankful for the CF Foundation and their dedication to finding a cure!! There have been so many advancements over the past several years and there is so much hope for a cure in Dallas’ lifetime. The CF Foundation relies on donations to fund their research and clinical trials. Please join our cause to help Dallas and the other 30,000 Americans living with cystic fibrosis.
In October 2019 the FDA approved Trikafta which is true breakthrough medication and the closest thing to a cure! Right now it is for ages 12 and up but we hope within the next 1-2 years it will be approved for Dallas' age group. But this is not a cure and while it helps 90% of people with CF our hope and prayer is for a cure for everyone with CF!
