Our dear family and friends, We hope 2020 is off to a happy and healthy start! We are all doing well and have an important request for your consideration.
We humbly ask for your help in supporting the COWABUNGA CHAMP and the CF community again this year. With your generosity, last year we raised close to $20,000 and Great Strides Dana Point saw the highest percent growth increase over prior years, compared to all other 16 chapter events! This is incredible and we are so appreciative- THANK YOU!
Just a few months ago, a breakthrough drug, Trikafta, was released and has been truly life changing for adults with CF. While Joey is too young for this drug now, based on his genetic makeup, he should be able to start it (or something even better!) when it’s approved for children in the next couple years. It is because of your generous support and prayers that these tremendous possibilities exist for Joey and thousands like him. Joey hasn’t yet started any new medications, but he still uses his physiotherapy vest twice daily with his nebulizer treatments. It was support from generous donors like you that supported the research to develop these “lifestyle” therapies that keep him healthy during the tricky winter season.
Joey loves riding his bike, swimming, running and playing at the beach, which are all great exercises for him. He is an active, happy and thriving four year old!
We are encouraged by the CFF that there are even better approaches in the pipeline! Donations fund science. Science finds cures. Please help us raise funds to find a cure, for Joey and so many others. Sadly, 10% of CF sufferers have no available therapies for their condition. We continue the fight for them as well.
There are two ways to support or become a member of our team - either by joining the team as a virtual walker or helping us meet our individual goals by donating to a specific walker. By becoming a member of our team and helping us raise funds, you are joining a growing group of people committed to finding a cure for cystic fibrosis.
Truly, no donation is too small as $1 per person adds up- it just might be the dollar that buys the test tube that matches an antibody to fight a resistant bacteria that causes lung damage! Your donation is 100% tax deductible!
Many, many thanks! Please know how much we appreciate your thoughtfulness, and help spread the word by sending this note to your friends/co-workers/teammates/etc.
With much love and tremendous appreciation, Joey's fans
Foundation-Sponsored Indoor and Outdoor Events and Gatherings
The Foundation is closely following the evolving coronavirus outbreak. We will continue to monitor coronavirus guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and assess whether we need to change any scheduled events.
To reduce the risk of getting and spreading germs at CF Foundation-sponsored events, we ask that everyone follow basic best practices by regularly cleaning your hands with soap and water or with an alcohol-based hand gel, covering your cough or sneeze with a tissue or your inner elbow, and maintaining a safe 6-foot distance from anyone with a cold or infection. Medical evidence shows that germs may spread among people with CF through direct and indirect contact, as well as through droplets that travel short distances when a person coughs or sneezes. These germs can lead to worsening symptoms and speed decline in lung function.
To further help reduce the risk of cross-infection, the Foundation's attendance policy recommends inviting only one person with CF to attend the indoor portion of a Foundation-sponsored event at a specific time. For the outdoor portion, the Foundation recommends that all people with CF maintain a safe 6-foot distance from each other at all times.
