Dear family and friends,
Our update this year begins with some exciting news - the newest CF medication (Trikafta) was approved for children aged 6+ last year! Trikafta works by greatly restoring the function of the defective protein that causes CF and was approved for adults in 2019. For many people with advanced CF disease, Trikafta has been a “miracle drug.” Our Champ turned six in February and started taking Trikafta soon after. He has adjusted well to this new medication, and we are very hopeful that starting it this early will continue to keep our Champ healthy and strong!
Since the 1990s, the CF Foundation has been funding early-stage research to identify medications to treat CF. The fight is not over, and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation has vowed not to rest until “CF” stands for “Cure Found.” There are still many who don’t have effective therapies and some struggle to manage the care required for their loved ones. Funds raised today go to support efforts like these and to fund research to better understand the long-term impacts of medications like Trikafta because it currently must be taken every day indefinitely.
Your generosity and support over the years has continued to fund more discoveries that get us closer every year to the cure. We know we will get there because of our wonderful family and friends. We are so grateful and humbled by your support and thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
With oceans of love and waves of gratitude,
TEAM COWABUNGA CHAMP
