I started fundraising to help defeat CF in 2008 when I learned that Alexis, the daughter of my friend Doug, had CF. I have participated, and you have helped, each year since then.
This past year COVID-19 has been a global horror. While the situation is finally improving in the US, it is raging anew elsewhere. The rapidly developed vaccines that have permitted some of us to finally be able to visit friends and family again, after a yearlong hiatus, were the product of decades of fundamental research and demonstrate how critical that research truly is.
As yet, there is no vaccine, no cure, for CF. But since 2008, tremendous progress has been made in improving the lives of people, like Alexis, who live with CF every day. And it has been achieved largely through the collective power of small donations. Therapeutics have been developed, clinical trials of new drugs are ongoing, and life expectancy has increased significantly.
This year, due to COVID, the walk will again be virtual. But walk I will, in solidarity and strength with all the others working to find a cure. If you are able and inclined, I hope you will help - any amount is greatly appreciated.
