Nearly every day for the last 20 years, I've prayed the following prayer: "Heavenly Father, if it be Your will, I pray You might inspire the researchers and guide the work of the medical scientists, as they work to unlock the mysteries of Cystic Fibrosis to bring new therapies and perhaps one day, a cure to those afflicted with this dreadful disease." By God's grace we've seen great strides made as life-extending therapies are indeed being discovered. Perhaps most significant, Vertex Pharmaceuticals in 2019 received FDA approval to make a breakthrough treatment available in a prescription drug known as Trikafta. Trikafta significantly reduces the damaging effects of Cystic Fibrosis on the pulmonary system for upwards of 90% of CF patients. This was no small feat and in fact it is remarkable, some might even say miraculous. Of course, there is more work to be done to offer such a treatment to the entire patient population, and perhaps one day find a cure.
If you ask me five elements brought about the Trikafta breakthrough:
The steadfast commitment of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
The never-give-up attitude of the scientific medical research community.
Divine inspiration to guide the research.
The very generous donations of family and friends to drive items 1 & 2, and
Your prayers of petition for God's inspiration.
Throughout America and across demographics there are approximately 30,000 living with cystic fibrosis. They are moms, dads, sisters, brothers, daughters, sons, and friends who struggle every day to breathe. I am here for him and all of them. Will you join us and support our fundraising goal? Real progress has been made for those who have CF, but there is still no cure for this devastating disease and many lives are cut far too short.
Please consider supporting "Nick's Crew" and donating to our Great Strides fundraising campaign today?
We are at a pivotal moment in the history of cystic fibrosis and your support matters. Your gift will help add tomorrows to the lives of people with cystic fibrosis by supporting groundbreaking research and medical progress towards a cure.
Someone I love dearly has this dreadful disease. I'd be grateful if you'd help me reach my fundraising goal! Whether you're able to support our Great Strides Walk with a monetary gift or not, your prayers are critical. Please join us in praying that the cure will soon be found. That will be the day CF no longer stands for Cystic Fibrosis, but CURE FOUND. What a glorious day that will be.
Foundation-Sponsored Indoor and Outdoor Events and Gatherings
The Foundation is closely following the evolving coronavirus outbreak. We will continue to monitor coronavirus guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and assess whether we need to change any scheduled events.
To reduce the risk of getting and spreading germs at CF Foundation-sponsored events, we ask that everyone follow basic best practices by regularly cleaning your hands with soap and water or with an alcohol-based hand gel, covering your cough or sneeze with a tissue or your inner elbow, and maintaining a safe 6-foot distance from anyone with a cold or infection. Medical evidence shows that germs may spread among people with CF through direct and indirect contact, as well as through droplets that travel short distances when a person coughs or sneezes. These germs can lead to worsening symptoms and speed decline in lung function.
To further help reduce the risk of cross-infection, the Foundation's attendance policy recommends inviting only one person with CF to attend the indoor portion of a Foundation-sponsored event at a specific time. For the outdoor portion, the Foundation recommends that all people with CF maintain a safe 6-foot distance from each other at all times.
