Hi all!!! It's that time of year again...sort of... The CF walk was postponed from May until August, but now for the safety of everyone-especially those we walk for-it has been made into a virtual event this year. This would have been my 10th year participating in the walk (and Team Ethan's)! Declan, Emma and I will be participating by walking through our neighborhoods on Saturday, August 29. If you can donate at all we really appreciate it. If you want to specifically donate to Declan or Emma you can find them listed under the team members or search for a walker to find them.
Here's a little info from Ethan's family...
Ethan is 9 years old and with all things considered, a healthy boy for someone who has Cystic Fibrosis (CF). But things can change quickly and finding a cure for this awful disease is our # 1 goal not only for Ethan for all CF’ers.
You wouldn’t know that Ethan has CF just by looking at him. That’s because the damage is done on the inside. Some of things that he’s dealing with are…
Liver Disease -- Ethan takes a medication twice a day to keep his liver in check. With all the meds he takes it adds extra stress to the liver on top of the damage that is being caused by Cystic Fibrosis.
Sinus Infections -- Twice a day he has to have sinus rinses, as well as medications to help keep him clear.
Digestive Issues He often gets “backed up” due to CF which means he has to take extra medicines to help clear him out.
While these are things he’s currently dealing with, CF also affects the organs, such as the lungs. People with CF are closely monitored for decline in lung function. Absorbing nutrients is another concern as the pancreas is pancreatic insufficient due to mucus blocking the necessary enzymes to digest food. Because of this, CF damages the lungs and other organs which overtime becomes life taking.
Currently there’s no cure and this is where you can step in and help find a cure. Team-Ethan has been fundraising for 9 years raising over $40,000. Our goal this year is $8,000. Will you help make a difference? Will you help give Ethan a better quality of life? There are over 30,000 people in the US who have CF and 70,000 worldwide. They all can use your generous help.
Because of your past donations you helped bring a ground-breaking medication to the CF community, and there are even better drugs on the way that will greatly impact Ethan! Because of fundraisers like this, new treatments have been found and has helped move the median age of life from 6 years old to the mid 40’s. CF used to be known as a children’s disease, but now so many are living well past their 40’s!
