My name is Jessica Fischer and I am the current Ms. Placer County. This year I have chosen the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation as my platform. The CFF is very dear to me as my brother was diagnosed at the age of 2 and I’m so happy I can be apart of this amazing organization to help fund medical research so that one day CF can stand for Cure Found.
There are approximately 30,000 Americans living with cystic fibrosis. They are moms, dads, sisters, brothers, daughters, sons, and friends who struggle every day just to breathe. Cystic fibrosis is a progressive, genetic disease that causes long-lasting lung infections and limits the ability to breathe over time. More than 30,000 children and adults in the United States have CF (70,000 worldwide) and CF affects people of every racial and ethnic group. Today, because of improved medical treatments and care, more than half of people with CF are age 18 or older. Many people with CF can expect to live healthy, fulfilling lives into their 30s, 40s, and beyond. The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation will one day make CF stand for Cure Found.
Real progress has been made for those who have CF, but there is still no cure for this devastating disease and many lives are cut far too short. We've come so far, but there's still so much work to do. I will not stop striding until all those with cystic fibrosis have a cure. We will not leave anyone behind.
