On December 20, 2017, my sorority sister and dear friend Heather Knotts passed away due to complications from cystic fibrosis. Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a progressive, genetic disease that causes persistent lung infections, digestive issues, and decreases the ability to breathe over time. Although there are currently treatments available to prolong the lives of those with CF, there is no cure.
Heather was a spunky, sassy, intelligent, caring woman. Throughout our friendship, I witnessed Heather battle CF with astonishing fierceness and courageousness. In Heather’s honor, myself and my fellow Phi Mu sisters are participating in the Great Strides walk, a fundraising event put on by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation to help increase awareness about the disease and raise money to help support research efforts. The event will be taking place on May 18th at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo. Please consider supporting myself and my Phi Mu sisters as we participate in this event to honor Heather and work towards a future without cystic fibrosis. Any donation, no matter how small or how large, would be immensely appreciated!
