Hi friends, Look at this guy! He is 10 in March and walking in his 11th Great Strides walk!
He loves playing basketball, playing the piano and drums, making movies, playing video games and hanging out with his buddies. Beckett knows he has Cystic Fibrosis and he knows it's a fight he will have the rest of his life. He battles every day by taking lots of medicine and spending hours doing airway clearance therapy. He is very patient at his quarterly checkups and brave when he does his PTFs, X-rays, and blood draws. Beckett is doing all he can do at his age to fight CF.
We are always trying to stay in front of Beckett's health. It takes monthly, weekly, daily and hourly discipline. Beckett's continued health is a fantastic reward for our efforts but there is more we can do, like this annual fundraising for medical research. It is empowering to know that we can be a part of finding a cure and increasing the life expectancy for everyone with CF.
We are so grateful for everyone who has supported us once before and for those of you who make an annual donation. This year is just as important as years past, this year we have a chance to make a statement in the Portland Great Strides by celebrating that our team has raised $350,000 in 10 years!
Foundation-Sponsored Indoor and Outdoor Events and Gatherings
The Foundation is closely following the evolving coronavirus outbreak. We will continue to monitor coronavirus guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and assess whether we need to change any scheduled events.
To reduce the risk of getting and spreading germs at CF Foundation-sponsored events, we ask that everyone follow basic best practices by regularly cleaning your hands with soap and water or with an alcohol-based hand gel, covering your cough or sneeze with a tissue or your inner elbow, and maintaining a safe 6-foot distance from anyone with a cold or infection. Medical evidence shows that germs may spread among people with CF through direct and indirect contact, as well as through droplets that travel short distances when a person coughs or sneezes. These germs can lead to worsening symptoms and speed decline in lung function.
To further help reduce the risk of cross-infection, the Foundation's attendance policy recommends inviting only one person with CF to attend the indoor portion of a Foundation-sponsored event at a specific time. For the outdoor portion, the Foundation recommends that all people with CF maintain a safe 6-foot distance from each other at all times.
