In 2022, I celebrated my EIGHT year anniversary of working in support of the mission of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation - to find a cure for all people living with cystic fibrosis (CF). Since I started in 2014, we have seen so much progress, including the FDA approval of 4 life-changing drugs, most notably the approval of Trikafta in October 2019. In June of 2021 Trikafta was approved for children ages 6-11. It is essential to get this life-changing medication to the younger population to avoid scar tissue in their lungs early on, and we are anxiously awaiting the approval for even younger kiddos, hopefully in the next year!
Back in the 1950's, people with CF were not expected to live long enough to attend elementary school. Today, many people with CF are going to college, getting married and even having children of their own. While this progress is amazing and is something we celebrate, we are not done yet! The drugs that are approved do NOT work for everyone with CF. We continue our fight until there is a CURE for ALL people with CF, and we will not leave anyone behind.
This year, after a 2 year hiatus, we will be back to walking in person! In 2020 and 2021 we hosted car parades to continue to raise funds and awareness for CF, but I am so excited to literally get our feet on the ground and come together with the CF community.
Portland Great Strides will be on Saturday, April 30th at Oaks Amusement Park. I would to have you help me reach my goal by making a donation today. Thank you for joining me in my fight!
