Hello friends and family,
May is Cystic Fibrosis Awareness Month!
This year I am once again participating in the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s Portland Great Strides walk and would greatly appreciate a contribution to my fundraising efforts in support of families living with CF.
Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a rare genetic disorder that affects the lungs, pancreas and other organs. People with CF have a defective protein that does not allow chloride to move to the cell surface. The result of this defect is a thick, sticky mucus that coats various organs, which traps bacteria and makes people with CF more prone to infection. Without medicines, treatments and therapy that has been funded by CFF, people with CF would likely not survive more than a few years due to these infections or malnourishment.
Over the past 11+ years, I have had the opportunity to meet and become friends with a good number of people living with CF and their families. I have become close with medical professionals who dedicate their lives to providing care for people with CF. I have also experienced the loss of people with CF, and attended too many funerals of friends who lived their whole lives with the realization that they would likely pass before their parents.
Significant advancement in treatments and groundbreaking drug discoveries have taken place during my time at CFF. Most people with CF are living longer, healthier lives than ever before. All of this progress was made possible by donations and support from individuals like you. I am incredibly proud to work for a foundation that has generated true, game-changing results for so many people.
Yet there is still a significant portion of people with CF with a rare mutation for which current transformational drugs do not help. By donating to my campaign and joining the fight, you could very well say that you played a role in curing a disease.
I want to say thank you to everyone who has donated to CFF through my Great Strides campaign through the years. The sheer number of friends and family who has shown their support and encouragement through a donation makes me incredibly proud. I sincerely apologize for anyone I have left off of this list, and if you feel your name should be here, please let me know and I will add it!
