My CF Cycle for Life Story
Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a progressive, genetic disease that causes persistent lung infections and limits the ability to breathe over time. CF is a complex disease and the types and severity of symptoms can differ widely from person to person. Many different factors, such as the age of diagnosis, can affect an individual's health and the course of the disease.
My cousin has Cystic Fibrosis. When I was little, I did not think that my cousin was any different than me. She ate differently than I did, but she used a nebulizer (a machine that turns liquid medicine into a fine mist) as I did for my asthma. It was not until we were young adults that I really understood the seriousness of CF.
Working alongside the CF community, the CF Foundation has fostered the development of more than a dozen CF treatments and helped add decades of life for people with CF. Yet, many people with CF do not benefit from existing therapies. Our vision is a cure for every person with cystic fibrosis – a life free from the burden of this disease – and we will not leave anyone behind.
