I AM A CF DAD

Cystic fibrosis affects the lungs, pancreas, and other organs. The symptoms can vary from person to person, and as people with CF live longer than ever before, their disease can become more complicated, leading to serious health issues.  

I have seen “up close and personal” how devastating Cystic Fibrosis can be.  As a Dad I’ve grown from holding a baby who is struggling to breathe, to keeping a stock of pancreatic enzymes in my car, to supporting an adult daughter who has to manage IV antibiotics at the office.   I am incredibly proud of my daughter’s courage and determination to NOT LET THIS DISEASE DEFINE HER, but sometimes I still feel helpless. 

Because my daughter is African American, she was diagnosed late and there are fewer treatments available to her.  There is currently no cure for cystic fibrosis. By participating in CF Cycle for Life, I am trying to do my small part to help this hero and others like her who are impacted by CF to conquer it.

The CF Foundation has made tremendous progress - including fostering the development of over a dozen CF treatments - but the treatments are not a cure and not everyone can benefit from them.  We must keep going.
