He and Liz are stil together (yay!) and weather permitting both will be riding again this year. Thanks for visiting my page and supporting us
Update August 20,2018: Had a great ride this year -- weather cleared for the day (haze and unhealthy air quality returned the day after!) enabling me to ride Ricky, Christine and me to ride the entire 67 miles. Mike and Liz stopped a bit short at 55 but only cause Liz got a flat. Our team raised over $10,000 of the approx $60,000 raised by our local event! So thanks to all our team memebrs and generous friends and family supporting us!!. Some photos from our 2018 ride are at https://photos.app.goo.gl/TvKXwkKaF2AfS8TB8
2017 Message; Thank you for visiting my page. Five and a half years ago, after a hospitalization and several return visits to the Mayo clinic for recurring pnuemonias, we learned our son Michael has a rare form of Cystic Fibrosis that was not picked up in prior testing. He is 26 now and doing well at the moment, working nearly full-time as co-op/intern and just a couple credits shy of getting his degree in Mathmatics at WSU Tri-Cities. We are still learning and adjusting after a very tough few years including now several years on IVs and other therapies trying to eradicate a drug resistant bacteria in his lungs thought to be responsible for his recurring pnuemonias. But the regimen is tiring emotionally and physically, limiting his activities, like it does with many others with CF related conditions.
The good news though is that the CF Foundation sponsored research is making real progress in developing new treatments for these drug resistant bacteria, in addition to treatment for the underlying CF condition that allows these bacteria to take hold. Several promising therapies are in Stage II and III trials, with some drugs already approved that are significantly helping prolong patients lives. But help is needed to keep up the momentum of this life-saving research. The CF Foundation has been leading the charge in funding research since the disease is not common enough to attract the big drug companies. To learn more about CF and the CF Foundation, visit www.cff.org.
The CF Cycle for Life is a unique event that empowers cyclists to take action and demonstrate their fight in finding a cure for cystic fibrosis in a tangible, emotional and powerful way. Michael formed a team seven years ago through which we have been able to contribute significantly to the nearly $5M raised through 42 separate Cycle for Life rides each year.
Will you join us? Be part of our cycling team, the Scott's Cycle and Sports Team, and help us raise $, or support us by making a donation to our CF Cycle for Life fundraising campaign today or doing other things to raise awareness! If you ride with my team, please contact me about fees and such -- for each team member, Linda and I will again be matching up to $250 for donations you raise, up to $4000 total for the team, if you dont have a corporate matching program.
