Welp, 2020 is going off a little different than we had planned. We were hoping to be gearing up to lead the Metro DC walk in funds raised and walkers for the second year in a row at CFF's Great Strides walk. Last year, our crew came out in huge numbers - both in walkers, donations and sending of good vibes. This year, we're asking for your help to keep Inspire Spero leading the pack.
Here's how you can help:
1. Above all, stay safe and healthy during COVID-19. As you can guess, the risks are higher for those with already compromised lungs and knowing our "squad" is helping get rid of the virus does more than any funds or walking could ever do.
2. Sign up to "walk" with our team. Although the physical walk has been cancelled, CFF is still trying to generate excitement around Great Strides and having you (and your kids, partners, parents, house plants) listed as a teammates shows we are still adamantly working for a cure.
3. Make a donation to our walk team. You can pick any walker to donate to (pick yourself!). In the past, donations of $100 earned a highly-coveted Inspire Spero cup. Even without a physical walk we are working to make the cups are happen - one per family.
4. Sign up for advocacy alerts by texting FIGHT CF to 96387. They are fast and help the needs of people with CF be heard.
Thanks for reading and for any support and love you can throw our way. In the past weeks we have been overwhelmed and humbled with all the check-ins, positive messages and energy you've given us. We can't wait for this all to be behind us, for us to be healthy and together - hopefully in our backyard at the best BBQ ever. Only rule - you have to stay 6 feet away from your family members the whole time.
Foundation-Sponsored Indoor and Outdoor Events and Gatherings
The Foundation is closely following the evolving coronavirus outbreak. We will continue to monitor coronavirus guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and assess whether we need to change any scheduled events.
To reduce the risk of getting and spreading germs at CF Foundation-sponsored events, we ask that everyone follow basic best practices by regularly cleaning your hands with soap and water or with an alcohol-based hand gel, covering your cough or sneeze with a tissue or your inner elbow, and maintaining a safe 6-foot distance from anyone with a cold or infection. Medical evidence shows that germs may spread among people with CF through direct and indirect contact, as well as through droplets that travel short distances when a person coughs or sneezes. These germs can lead to worsening symptoms and speed decline in lung function.
To further help reduce the risk of cross-infection, the Foundation's attendance policy recommends inviting only one person with CF to attend the indoor portion of a Foundation-sponsored event at a specific time. For the outdoor portion, the Foundation recommends that all people with CF maintain a safe 6-foot distance from each other at all times.
