My name is Makenzie Goff-Bonneau and I am 27. I was diagnosed at the age of 4 1/2 with the double delta F508 gene mutation. Recently, I was diagnosed with CFRD in the past year.
Growing up with CF was different for me. I have always been considered “lucky” because I was healthier than most with my gene mutation. However, I never talked to anyone about my CF. It was my secret that I kept until I graduated from high school. I hated being treated differently when people found out I had CF. After graduation, I realized CF is a part of who I am and I decided to open up and share my testimony. That is when I found my identity as a person with this disease and started to share my testimony.
Now, I have my Associated degree in Sign Language Interpreting and my Bachelors degree in Education. Currently, I am a teacher and I teach high school ASL.
I am beyond thankful for my family, in laws, friends, and husband who have supported me throughout the years.
Please join my team and come walk with me for a cure!
