My lilacs are in bloom with our recent warm weather. Spring is here and that means it is time for the Cystic Fibrosis Great Strides Walk for a Cure. This year Team Rogai will once again be walking in Ocean City, NJ...and we’ll be praying for sunshine and the cool ocean breezes to make the walk a pleasant one like last year.
There are approximately 30,000 Americans living with Cystic Fibrosis. They are moms, dads, sisters, brothers, daughters, sons, granddaughters, grandsons, nieces, nephews, friends and co-workers who struggle every day just to breathe. I walk for them, and in particular for my grandson, Francis, and hope you will support me in my efforts.
Francis has lived with CF for 14 1/2 years. And what a treasure he is! Whether you need help with the groceries, clearing the table, preparing food for the poor or just a laugh when you’re feeling blue, he’s your guy. A normal 14 year old who likes playing soccer, going to 8th grade dances, playing video games, going to the movies and watching and playing along with Jeopardy. Yes, he is a total trivia buff and usually comes up with more correct answers than anyone else in the room. He’s on the track team and the Reading Olympics team. In fact he reads more than anyone else I know which accounts for his phenomenal vocabulary. And he took great pride in whooping his great uncle, Don, in Wii ping pong recently and pretty much holds all the Wii records in the house. His new passion is poker and he plays with his Grammy and Pop Pop every Friday night after watching Jeopardy. He likes playing 7 card stud and High Chicago in particular. And even though it doesn’t seem possible he is heading to Malvern Prep High School in September. Where have the years gone? Yes, just a normal teenager...except he lives with Cystic Fibrosis so he cant take breathing for granted. Twice a day he does breathing treatments to help keep his lungs and airways clear and functioning. And several meds and enzymes are a part of his daily regimen to help with digestion. But yet not once have I ever heard him complain. He is quite a special young man.
Real progress has been made for those who have CF but there is still no cure for this devastating disease and many lives are cut far too short. We’ve come so far, but there’s still so much work to do. I will not stop striding until all those with cystic fibrosis have a cure. By walking today I am helping add tomorrows to the lives of people living with Cystic Fibrosis. Will you join me? Help me reach my fundraising goal by making a donation. Support TEAM ROGAI and our Great Strides fundraising campaign today. Great Strides is a fun, family-friendly event that raises awareness and support for people with CF and their families. Your gift is 100% tax deductible. Or, if you like, join Team Rogai and come walk with us in Ocean City on April 27th. It's on the boardwalk so you can't beat the view and we would love to have you join us. And finally, I do believe in the power of prayer so please pray for a cure for CF.
We are at a pivotal moment in the history of cystic fibrosis and your support matters. Your gift will help add tomorrows to the lives of people with cystic fibrosis by supporting groundbreaking research and medical progress towards a cure. Please help me reach my fundraising goal!
