I am walking for my sister, Katie, who has cystic fibrosis. She was diagnosed as a newborn in the hospital and our parents were told she would likely not live beyond her 18th birthday. She is now 41 years old and in good health! Katie has never let the disease get her down. She is always upbeat and positive with a smile on her face. She has to get up extra early to do her treatment before going to work, remember to take pills with her everywhere she goes, and end the day with another treatment. She doesn’t complain about it. To her, life is a gift and she feels blessed to be alive every day. But the reality is, Katie is a blessing to those around her...especially me.
Real progress has been made for those who have CF, but there is still no cure for this devastating disease and many lives are cut far too short. We’ve come so far, but there’s still so much work to do. I will not stop striding until all those with cystic fibrosis have a cure. Will you join me?
