About Our Walk

For 30 years, Great Strides – the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s largest national fundraising event – has supported the Foundation’s mission to cure cystic fibrosis and raise awareness for this rare, genetic, life-shortening disease that makes it difficult to breathe and shortens lives.

Great Strides provides a fantastic opportunity for the community to come together and make a difference in the lives of people with CF. Participants can form walk teams at their workplace, through local clubs, gyms or other organizations, along with friends and family teams.

Registration is free, but walkers are encouraged to raise funds. Your support will help accelerate innovative research and drug development, as well as advance care and advocacy. Nearly every CF drug was made possible by the Foundation and because of funds raised from Great Strides, people with CF are living longer, healthier lives and pursuing their dreams.

We are working every day to build on this incredible momentum, and we won’t stop until there is a cure for all people living with CF.

Sign up to walk in Great Strides today and join us as we take steps towards a cure. The time is now. Together, we can cross the finish line. Let’s LACE UP. WALK. CURE CYSTIC FIBROSIS.

Meet our Rapid City Ambassador

Team Fischer, 2017

Thank you for being a part of our mission to add tomorrows at our annual Rapid City Great Strides Walk!  My name is Sarah Abrams, and I am the mother of Fischer, age 7, who is living with cystic fibrosis.  This year I am honored to be Rapid City’s Great Stride Ambassador.

I truly believe in the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s slogan of “Adding Tomorrows”.  They are improving lives and doing their best to fulfill their mission.  When Fischer was diagnosed with CF a few days after his birth, my world was overwhelming.  I remember having so many fears and questions.  Thankfully, after meeting Fischer’s wonderful CF care team at Sanford’s Children’s Hospital in Sioux Falls, meeting other CF families and researching the discoveries and conquered quests the CF Foundation has accomplished, my fears lessened.  During this time, I also felt a new responsibility to raise awareness of this progressive disease and raise research funds.  The CF Foundation needs my support and your support.  I want to see Fischer and all CF patients living a long, healthy life, to attend college, to get married, to experience a full life!

For our family, Great Strides is our main fundraiser.  Every year I am deeply touched by all the supporters who come to support Fischer and others who live and passed away with cystic fibrosis.  It is an event that brings me to tears and reminds me that this disease is my son’s reality.  The reality helps me focus on the event as a celebration of Fischer and all the accomplishments the CF Foundation has made.  We all rally and walk together to support Fischer and to celebrate the research funds all the teams raised to add more tomorrows to the lives of those living with cystic fibrosis.  It is a fun morning listening to music, socializing, walking along Rapid City’s beautiful bike path next to Rapid Creek and ending the event eating lunch together provided by a local restaurant.

I would like to personally thank you for donating and/or walking with us.  You are helping us add tomorrows to the lives of those living with cystic fibrosis.

For a cure,

Sarah Abrams
