About Xtreme Hike

The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s Xtreme Hike program takes hikers through some of the most scenic trails in the nation to raise funds and awareness for cystic fibrosis. Xtreme Hike is about reaching new heights physically and philanthropically. It is a journey of passion, determination, and personal triumph, as much as it is an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of people with cystic fibrosis.

The Orange County Chapter’s 4th Annual Xtreme Hike will take place in the Inyo National Forest up by the Mammoth Lakes ranger district. This year’s 18-mile hike will begin at the Agnew Meadows Trailhead (elevation: 8,330’) and will take participants through the Ansel Adams Wilderness as they hike along part of the historic John Muir Trail up to Thousand Island Lake (elevation: 9,840’) and then loop back toward Agnew Meadows on part of one of the original National Scenic Trails, the Pacific Crest Trail.

This “Thousand Island Lake Loop” is rigorous but has amazing views of numerous sparkling lakes, alpine meadows and some of the most spectacular peaks in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. All hikers will enjoy accommodations for three days and two nights. This includes an energizing pre-hike pasta dinner, pre-hike breakfast on hike day, and a post-hike victory dinner. Additionally, all hikers will be provided with a food bag the day of the hike. As participants prepare for the physical challenge, hikers are encouraged to raise $2,500 through their personal and social media campaigns.

The journey of participation includes:
Six months of training hikes around the Southern California area beginning in March
Accommodations for 3 days and 2 nights
Official Xtreme Hike wicking shirt
Pre-hike pasta party
Day of hike breakfast and food bag
Post hike victory dinner
