About Xtreme Hike
The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s Xtreme Hike event takes hikers through some of the most scenic trails in the nation while raising funds and awareness for cystic fibrosis. Xtreme Hike is about reaching new heights physically and philanthropically. It’s a journey of passion, determination and personal triumph, as much as it’s an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of people with CF.
Since 2012, the Northern California Xtreme Hike has hiked over 90 miles in iconic locations including Yosemite National Park & Lake Tahoe, and raised over $485,000 in support of finding a cure to cystic fibrosis. For our 6th year, we will be in Yosemite again hiking to Mt Hoffman. Join us on this amazing journey to view new sights and climb higher heights.
In just one day, a dedicated team of Xtreme Hikers will hike an extreme 16+ miles in Yosemite to over 10,000 ft of elevation to raise funds and awareness for the CF Foundation’s mission to find a cure for cystic fibrosis. Hikers will train for three months to prepare for this amazing journey, while committing to raise funds to benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. All hikers are provided with all the tools needed to reach their goals, both on and off the trail. As participants prepare for the physical challenge, hikers are encouraged to raise $2,500 through their personal and social media campaigns. The Xtreme Hike is limited to 50 hikers.

What makes the Northern California Xtreme Hike unique?
John Muir was once asked what he would do if he only had 1 day in Yosemite so he suggested to “Go straight to Mount Hoffmann".
We begin the day by visiting one of Yosemite's most pristine subalpine lakes, May Lake, which sits directly below Mt. Hoffman's summit at 9,270 feet. We continue around May Lake and hike through steep rocky terrain. After a brief flat area of trail, we continue to climb with a minor scramble to the top where we will be greeted by several yellow bellied locals at the summit of 10,850 feet. We will be rewarded by several high country vistas including Clouds Rest, Half Dome and the Cathedral Range while avoiding the valley crowds. After the summit we return back down to May Lake. Then it's off to the tranquility of Raisin Lake, another Yosemite subalpine lake. This will be about 8 miles into the hike but we will have already climbed over 2,000 ft and up to 10,000 ft in altitude. If you do not reach this point by noon, you will go back to May Lake for a 12 mile hike. If your pace is more than 2 miles an hour and you reach Raisin Lake by noon then you will travel through Lodgepole forests and cross over some open granite slabs before reaching the Murphy Creek Trail. You will end the day at Tenaya Lake after your 16 mile hike with a refreshing dip in the water.
