My Team CF Story
I am running the 2019 Chicago Marathon with Team CF Superheroes!
Those of you that know me well know that the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is a cause that has been very close to my heart my entire life. I grew up next door to Lauren who is 3 years younger than me and over the years she has become like a sister to me. As kids we spent hours making up dance routines, playing with our dolls, building snow forts, and getting ourselves into typical kid shenanigans. But even as a child Lauren had additional responsibilities; she spends hours each day doing treatments for CF just so she can breathe. Sitting with her doing her treatments made me wonder from a young age what caused this disease and how can we fix it.
From my 6th grade science fair project on CF, to my senior project in high school, to learning about the CFTR gene in my college courses, and now working at the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation's own research lab outside of Boston I've always been motivated to learn as much as I can about CF.
I honestly believe that a cure for Cystic Fibrosis is on the horizon, there has been a tremendous amount of progress in the last few years but a CURE is still needed for EVERYONE living with CF! With your donation we are one step closer to CF standing for "Cure Found" rather than Cystic Fibrosis.
I know some of you are probably saying "yeah yeah Kath, you fundraise for the CF Foundation every year .... sooo
Why the Chicago Marathon?"
I've been an avid runner since high school. Chicago will be my 4th full marathon and I have a goal to break 4 hours. Chicago was recommended to me from a few different people for having a really fun, fast, and flat course so it seemed like a natural choice. I've also never run a race anywhere near this big, so that's exciting!
Why you should donate
Donate so Lauren and everyone else living with CF can have full and healthy lives!
The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is very efficient with their funds - they work hard to keep low overhead costs to ensure that the maximum amount of funds raised go where it is needed most - research and patient care!
Any donation small or large is greatly appreciated - and if you do not have the means to donate but would still like to be involved in the fight towards a cure, check out your local walk or other events going on at your local chapter - volunteers are always welcome!
Thank you so much for your support - It really does mean so much to me.
I have a goal of running a sub 4 hour marathon, but I have a much bigger goal of a cure for CF!
