My Team CF Story
There are approximately 30,000 Americans living with cystic fibrosis. They are moms, dads, sisters, brothers, daughters, sons, friends and co-workers who struggle every day just to breathe.
This is my 12th year being involved with the Wish for Wendy Softball Challenge, to be held October 26th in Alpharetta's North Park. I am continually amazed and inspired by the event's founder and chair, Andy Lipman, who battles cystic fibrosis everyday AND who started and continues this event in memory of his sister Wendy who passed from CF complications at just 16 days old. Andy never met his older sister Wendy, but she has an incredible legacy as this event has surpassed the $4 million mark in funds raised since 2000 for the CF Foundation's mission to find a cure for cystic fibrosis. I was honored last year to be asked by Andy & his wife Andrea to throw out the ceremonial first pitch.
Real progress has been made in the search for a cure, but the lives of people with CF are still cut far too short. There still is no cure for this devastating disease, but together, we can help add tomorrows to the lives of people with cystic fibrosis, for Andy, for Wish for Wendy's 16 CF Ambassadors, and for the more than 30,000 who live with CF in ths US (and 70,000 worldwide).
