My Xtreme Hike Story

Dear Friends & Family,

In just 11 years the Xtreme Hike Program has established more than 19 hikes nationwide, has raised more than $14 million to support the mission of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and has contributed to an increased average life expectancy of more than 10 years. I am grateful to be a part of these milestones and now have my children following in these same footsteps.

My daughters Ashton and Carter have contributed countless hours as volunteers and ambassadors for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and this year my son Grant will be joining me on the trails as I embark on my 12th Xtreme Hike with the Charlotte Chapter. On April 27th we will hike 30.1 miles of the Appalachian Trail together.

I am a true believer that a cure for cystic fibrosis is within our reach in this lifetime and that your donated dollars are making a tangible difference in the lives of those with CF, but we aren’t there yet.

This year, my fundraising letter does not include an update on how my friends are thriving from therapies provided by the CF Foundation but a story of a family friend who is fighting for her life and who is experiencing complications of cystic fibrosis too soon in life.

Maeve Leonard, age 13 is pictured above with my daughter Addie and has seen a dramatic decrease in her lung function and is waiting to be listed for a double lung transplant. Maeve is the same age as Addie and deserves the chance at a long, healthy life. Grant and I will be dedicating our hike this year to Maeve.

Whatever you can afford to give will make a difference and will be 100% tax-deductible for 2018 if the donation is made before the end of the year. Please be assured that your generous gift will be used efficiently and effectively—as nearly 90 percent of every dollar of revenue raised by the Foundation is available for investment in vital CF programs to support research, care and education.

Thank you once again for your continued support of Xtreme Hike to Cure Cystic Fibrosis and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. You have helped give the gift of hope to so many and I wish you all the best in the coming year.

Thank You All for Your Continued Support,

Grant & John
