Welcome back King's Court team members and donors! We missed last year's Great Strides event so that means we have to work twice as hard this year! The 2019 Great Strides walk is in Santa Rosa at Spring Lake on Sunday, September 8th and I am hoping you will walk with my team King's Court!! I have been participating in this walk for close to 20 years and it is a super fun event for all ages, and puppies too!!!
Why I am doing this: Mainly because CF SUCKS, but also because it is a great way to raise awareness about Cystic Fibrosis in our community and to be part of something that will make a difference in my life and in the lives of many others living with CF. In 1987, I was eight years old and I watched my sister die on her twelfth birthday from this horrible disease, knowing one day that would also be my fate. We have come a long way since 1987, and I know I would not be alive today without the progress that has been made and the treatments that are now available to people with CF, but there is still so much to do.
Since the last time our team was together I accomplished three HUGE goals and celebrated many wonderful life events; I watched my oldest niece graduate from Petaluma High School, I turned 40 YEARS OLD, and my husband and I bought a house! Last but certainly not least, my husband and I became Grandparents to a healthy baby boy, named Oliver Anthony King!!! I still have many goals to accomplish in my life, including celebrating my 50th Birthday, and seeing my younger niece and nephew graduate high school. I want to be here to celebrate as many milestones in the lives of our family and friends as possible, but I cannot do it without YOU!
Where you come in: I need your help to meet my fundraising goals ($1,500 individual, $3,000 team). Your donation will support the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s mission to find a cure and continue to improve the lives of people with CF, and it is 100 percent tax deductible! Donating is easy and secure. Simply click the link below and follow the prompts to make a donation and/or join my team. Any amount that you can contribute is greatly appreciated. Your support will help fuel lifesaving research, treatments and care for people with CF.
Important note on Attendance at Foundation Events:
Infections can exacerbate CF symptoms and worsen lung function, so we ask attendees at Foundation-sponsored events to observe the following best practices to reduce the risk of germ transmission:
Regularly wash hands with soap and water or with an alcohol-based hand gel.
Cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue or your inner elbow.
Maintain a safe 6-foot distance from anyone with a cold or infection.
To further reduce the risk of cross-infection, the Foundation’s attendance policy recommends that all people with CF maintain a safe 6-foot distance from each other at all times while attending an outdoor Foundation-sponsored event. All Great Strides walks are non-smoking events.
