I will be leading Reid's Crew- Walnut Creek walking on April 28th in the Cystic Fibrosis Great Strides Fundraising Event. I am walking to raise money to fund research to find a cure for Cystic Fibrosis, to help, my cousin's son, Reid and all those that live with CF.
These are a few words from Reid's dad, Tim: "This year we are closer than ever to something that will make a profound difference in Reid's life. Vertex Pharmaceuticals released very encouraging phase 3 results for a drug that targets Reid's specific gene mutation. It's actually happening! We've heard so many amazing stories from other CF families who have been able to take similar, already approved drugs (for their mutation type, they differ). While it's not a cure, it will treat the underlying cause of his disease. If it is approved, we will no longer be relegated to solely treating symptoms. We had another hospital stay in January, which Reid was able to bounce back from pretty quickly. What scared me the most was the number of times a Dr. or nurse would comment "Wow, it's been over a year since his last hospitalization!" The staff and treatments that stabilize him are amazing, but we don't want to go back. Ever. Help us make that a reality. We are almost there!"
You could show your support in finding a cure for CF, by walking with me on April 28th or by making a donation by clicking the link below. Any donation you could make is greatly appreciated.
By joining our team and making a donation, you are joining a growing group of people committed to finding a cure for cystic fibrosis. We will not rest until all those with cystic fibrosis have a cure. The time is now. Together, we can conquer this disease.
Important note on Attendance at Foundation Events:
Infections can exacerbate CF symptoms and worsen lung function, so we ask attendees at Foundation-sponsored events to observe the following best practices to reduce the risk of germ transmission:
Regularly wash hands with soap and water or with an alcohol-based hand gel.
Cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue or your inner elbow.
Maintain a safe 6-foot distance from anyone with a cold or infection.
To further reduce the risk of cross-infection, the Foundation’s attendance policy recommends that all people with CF maintain a safe 6-foot distance from each other at all times while attending an outdoor Foundation-sponsored event. All Great Strides walks are non-smoking events.
