Thank you to everyone who is donating to and walking on Team Reis. This is our sixth year. We are so happy to have your support.
. Reis is almost six years old. She has been on Kalydeco since she was two. It has made a huge difference for her. She remains strong and healthy and continues to grow by leaps and bounds. We know that she is incredibly lucky to be able to take this medication as it is only effective for a small number of CF patients. In addition, the fact that she was able to start so young will hopefully prevent some of the long term problems associated with CF.
CFF was very important in raising funds to develop Kalydeco. We know that it would not have been possible if events like this and groups like CFF didn't raise funds to develop new treatments for those living with CF. We stride in the hopes of raising funds for more research into drugs for Reis and others. The pipeline is continuing to move forward , bringing new medications for greater numbers of CF patients.
Continued funding for research is so important. Much of it is not government funded and so each and every dollar counts. Gene therapy also still remains a dream for a permanent cure. Please help us in this goal.
Every day, science and medicine learn something new about CF, and every dollar donated goes towards helping make those advances possible.
Important note on Attendance at Foundation Events:
Infections can exacerbate CF symptoms and worsen lung function, so we ask attendees at Foundation-sponsored events to observe the following best practices to reduce the risk of germ transmission:
Regularly wash hands with soap and water or with an alcohol-based hand gel.
Cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue or your inner elbow.
Maintain a safe 6-foot distance from anyone with a cold or infection.
To further reduce the risk of cross-infection, the Foundation’s attendance policy recommends that all people with CF maintain a safe 6-foot distance from each other at all times while attending an outdoor Foundation-sponsored event. All Great Strides walks are non-smoking events.
