Wow, this is our SIXTH Great Strides Walk for a Cure! Time has gone so quickly. We've come so far, even in those nearly six short years since Drea was born, but we are not quite there. Drea hit a big milestone in life this year - she started Kindergarten! She has had a wonderful year so far, making new friends, learning Spanish, and getting colds. It has been an adjustment for us, trusting that she will get everything she needs at school to stay healthy, and then fitting in her respiratory treatments in increasingly full days.
We continue to work with her ever-expanding CF team. Just in fall of 2018, we added physical therapy and Urology to the mix of specialists that already include her dynamic duo pulmonoligist and CF Nurse, GI, ENT, pediatrician, respiratory therapy, and research team. We continue to be diligent about her breathing treatments, which include over an hour of shaking in her vest and inhaling nebulized medicine to keep her lungs clear and healthy. We continue to give her the best possible nutrition so that her weight stays at a healthy level as it has been for the past few years. We continue to have hope that our work with the CFF will make it so that some day we can look back at all these things and rejoice that they are no longer necessary because a cure has been found.
By becoming a member of our team and making a donation, you are making the choice to continue on beside us. Your support- both financially for the CFF and as friends and family - give us hope.
Please support Drea!
Great Strides is a fun, family-friendly event that raises awareness and support for people with CF and their families. Help us reach our fundraising goal by donating to my Great Strides fundraising campaign. Your gift will help add tomorrows to the lives of people with cystic fibrosis by supporting life-saving research and medical progress. Your gift is 100-percent tax deductible.
Important note on Attendance at Foundation Events:
Infections can exacerbate CF symptoms and worsen lung function, so we ask attendees at Foundation-sponsored events to observe the following best practices to reduce the risk of germ transmission:
Regularly wash hands with soap and water or with an alcohol-based hand gel.
Cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue or your inner elbow.
Maintain a safe 6-foot distance from anyone with a cold or infection.
To further reduce the risk of cross-infection, the Foundation’s attendance policy recommends that all people with CF maintain a safe 6-foot distance from each other at all times while attending an outdoor Foundation-sponsored event. All Great Strides walks are non-smoking events.
