Dear Friends and Family,
This year marks the 31st anniversary of Great Strides, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s largest fundraiser. As you know, CF is a genetic disease that affects my grandson, Thomas, as well as approximately 33,000 children and adults in the United States. Even though Thomas is off at college, our fundraising efforts cannot stop, so we can ensure Thomas continues to live a full and productive life. In 1955, children born with CF often died before reaching elementary school. Today, the median age of survival for a person with CF is above 46. This tremendous life lengthening advancement is directly related to your continued generosity. By making your annual contribution, you have directly impacted advances in CF treatment. For instance, as of February 2018, a new CFTR modulator treatment, is approved for individuals with two copies of the most common cystic fibrosis mutation, as well as for individuals who have a single copy of one of 26 specified mutations -- regardless of their other mutation. This is just one example of the many advancements in treatments of CF, and it leaves me very optimistic.
The generosity of people like yourself has enabled the CF Foundation to get to where it is today, and with your continued support, you have the ability to make sure that other therapies in the CF pipeline are fully funded. While recent drug approvals represent real progress toward a cure, the lives of young people with CF are still cut far too short. We are proud of our achievements, but, we still have much to do.
That is why Team Thomas will be joining other families at the Annual Great Strides Walk at Van Saun Park, May 20th, 2018. Please consider a tax-deductible donation by clicking donate on this page or, if you prefer, you may mail your contribution (checks payable to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation) to:
32 North Church Road
Saddle River, NJ 07458
Thank you for supporting the mission of the CF Foundation and helping us find a cure for Thomas, and all the people living with this disease.
