What do you get when you combine incredible friends and family, a passion for curing cystic fibrosis, and a word that rhymes with Drew? Drew's Crew! Though Drew's Crew will be unable to attend the 2019 Great Strides festivities, we're still raising money because HEY! This disease isn't gonna cure itself!
Drew's Crew has been fundraising for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation since the days of Game Boy and Honey, I Shrunk the Kids. Thanks to our ever-expanding network of supporters -- and, frankly, our stubornness -- this has resulted in donations totaling more than $250,000 toward a cure. You might not be a mathemetician, but that's A QUARTER OF A MILLION DOLLARS.
Over time, and especially in recent years, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation's progress has been undeniable. Most remarkably, there are now three CFTR modulator drugs available to patients with certain genotypes. Though the scientific mumbo jumbo might be a lot to process, in the simplest terms, these drugs target the underlying cause of CF in certain populations.
Drew has been optimistically waiting for a drug that would benefit her particular CF genotype. Guess what, my friends -- the time is coming! There are now two drugs in Phase 3 (the final phase!) clinical trials, both of which Drew would be a candidate to take. If the preliminary trial results are any indication, this would be agroundbreaking, life-changing development for Drew.
Now, more than ever, your donation will be changing history. Please consider supporting Drew's Crew in 2019. You can (a) donate to us, (b) fundraise for us, (c) share our story, or (d) all of the above.
Important note on Attendance at Foundation Events:
Infections can exacerbate CF symptoms and worsen lung function, so we ask attendees at Foundation-sponsored events to observe the following best practices to reduce the risk of germ transmission:
Regularly wash hands with soap and water or with an alcohol-based hand gel.
Cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue or your inner elbow.
Maintain a safe 6-foot distance from anyone with a cold or infection.
To further reduce the risk of cross-infection, the Foundation’s attendance policy recommends that all people with CF maintain a safe 6-foot distance from each other at all times while attending an outdoor Foundation-sponsored event. All Great Strides walks are non-smoking events.
