My Great Strides Story
Dear Family & Friends,
Charlie had been admitted to Emory’s ICU for the past 3 weeks, fighting sudden hypoxic lung failure. Unfortunately, the progression of this failure meant he would require a lung transplant. Due to the rapid decline of his lung function, he was unable to receive a donor, and he passed quietly with his loved ones nearby on 4/2/2018.
CF is near and dear to our hearts as one of Jennifer's best friend's son, Grayton, was diagnosed at just 10 days old. We now feel an even stronger connection to CF, as we watched Charles fight to breathe. In people with CF, a defective gene causes a thick, sticky buildup of mucus in the lungs, pancreas, and other organs. In the lungs, the mucus clogs the airways and traps bacteria leading to infections, extensive lung damage, and eventually, respiratory failure which leads to lung transplants. No one should have to fight to breathe. We immediately knew this our way to turn heartache into hope.
Thank you for joining us in our fight against cystic fibrosis in Charle's name. We are beyond grateful to have so many come together in support of him.
Anne and Jennifer
