Dear Friends, Many of you have enriched our lives the past few years with your welcoming friendships. We have shared our personal story with some of you about the challenges we have faced as a family since my daughter’s diagnosis of cystic fibrosis at the age of three, but we never really have elaborated on what it’s like for a CF patient to live with the disease. We have such hopes and dreams for Jessica and the 30,000 others in the country born with this chronic genetic life-threatening illness. Here is a little insight as to how Jessica battles CF: She performs chest physical therapy for a minimum of 30 minutes, twice a day; takes 50 pills PER day including enzymes that enable her to digest food, nebulizes medicines & uses inhalers; schedules appointments to see the pulmonologist, gastroenterologist, ENT & endocrinologist. It’s very easy to forget just how difficult Jessica’s regimen is when you see her smiling face. But imagine trying to accomplish all that she has to do every single day in order to stay healthy? Yet, through her positive outlook on life, Jess is determined to fight and we will always be by her side in the battle. Recently, my friend’s daughter passed away from CF at the age of 22 and it stung my heart so badly that I felt compelled to continue my fundraising efforts. In Philadelphia, our family participated in an annual walk-a-thon for over 18 years called Great Strides to raise the necessary dollars to help find a cure for this disease. We have chosen to continue our efforts to fight by joining the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s Southwest Florida chapter. The wonderful news is yes - the life expectancy of a child with CF has doubled in the last few decades. It is now 47 years! Yes -the medical advances within the CF world have been significant and YES - new research is excelling at an incredibly fast pace. But we still aren’t there yet. Please join us on Saturday, April 13th at the Estero Community Park (9200 Corkscrew Palms Blvd.) Estero. Registration: begins at 8am : walk begins at 9am. If you can't walk, but still wish to DONATE TOWARDS JESSICA'S TEAM, CLICK THE DONATE BUTTON BELOW. THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!
