There are approximately 30,000 Americans living with cystic fibrosis. They are moms, dads, sisters, brothers, daughters, sons, friends, and co-workers who struggle every day just to breathe.
You are my friends and know about Drew. He has just had his 8th birthday and is in second grade. The weekend of this New London walk, he will make his First Holy Communion. Many of the kids with CF do not reach this milestone. We want Drew and all the others to pass many milestones and live long healthy lives. There has been tremendous amount of research in the last several years, that has helped many of the CF kids to lead better lives. Over half of the CF patients are now over 18! They go to college, have careers and get married. Most of the reseach is funded by the Cystic Firbosis Foundation and Great Strides is one of their big fund-raising events.
We will be at Drew and Lily's First Communion the weekend of the walk, so I am a "virtual walker". I promise to do my walking for real, but probably in stages. When ever I am doing a hard physical task and want to give up, I think of all that Drew has to do every day---the number of pills he takes, the inhaler treatments he needs and the time he spends in his vest getting shaken, to loosen the mucous in his lungs. This all becomes the everyday life of a cystic fibrosis person.
So I "walk" for Drew, and all the others like him, and in memory of those who did not live long enough to benefit from the research now being done.
Please Help me reach my fundraising goal by donating to my Great Strides fundraising campaign. Your gift will help add tomorrows to the lives of people with cystic fibrosis by supporting groundbreaking research and medical progress. Your gift is 100-percent tax deductible.
