My Great Strides Story
Team Strolling for Sarah CT will be participating in the Great Strides walk at Wickham Park in Manchester on May 6th. We walk to raise awaress of Cystic Fibrorsis and to raise funds for research to help find a cure or at least new beneficial drugs for this genetic disease. Hopefully granddaughter Sarah will be aided by these new discoveries which will make her day to day life easier. As we walk in Manchester, Rachel, Larry, Ben and Sarah will walk in Champaign, IL and Aunt Rebecca in Franklin, GA.
Sarah is 7 1/2 and doing very well. She is now in second grade, is an avid reader and totally into dragons! She swims and does Tae Kwon Do as her physical activities: very important for lung development. Tummy tube feeding continues to maintain body weight, but she is transitioning to regular food: hamburgers, chicken marsala and strawberry yogurt are among her favorites.
Research is so important for Sarah's future. A new anti-inflammatory drug, Anabasam, still in a trial stage, will reduce lung damage and slow progression of the disease. This kind of research will extend the median life expectancy for CF people beyond the present 38 years of age.
