My Great Strides Story
This is my fifth year walking for Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and my fourth year participating in the Charity Cycling Challenge for Team Maia. I started walking when my goddaughter Maia was diagnosed with CF at her newborn screening; and she just recently celebrated her 5th birthday! Since that day, there have been amazing strides towards making CF stand for Cure Found, especially advances for the strand that precious Maia has. Thanks to those changes, Maia is a bright, active, fun-loving 5 year old who loves rock climbing, and just recently made it to the top of the wall for the first time!!! :) :) :) While I am estatic that her future is looking brighter everyday, we will not stop until everyone with CF has the same chances. My hope is that through these two events I will raise $250 for the CFF.
Maia is just 1 of the approximately 30,000 Americans living with cystic fibrosis. They are moms, dads, SISTERS, brothers, daughters, sons, friends and co-workers who struggle every day just to breathe. Luckily, up to this point, Maia has not suffered many of the devastating side effects that many people living with CF face everyday. However, Maia now understands that she has Cystic Fibrosis and is beginning understand what that means. I walk with the hope that a cure will be found so that Maia and Chloe will never have to fully understand what living with Cystic Fibrosis can look like.
Real progress has been made in the search for a cure, but the lives of people with CF are still cut far too short. There still is no cure for this devastating disease. By walking today, I am helping add tomorrows to the lives of people living with cystic fibrosis. Will you join me? Support me by making a donation to my Great Strides fundraising campaign today!
