31 years in the making! My twin sister, Tracy, was born with Cystic Fibrosis and diagnosed at birth. She had 5 abdominal surgeries within the first 6 months of her life and was in and out of the hospital most of my first year. Growing up, She was never treated differently but she had always known she was different than her sisters and I. She spent her days doing nebulized treatments, sitting on our parent's lap four times a day while getting chest percussion, and taking endless amounts of enzymes. Team Tracy's Smile started in 2012 and with this name it says it all. With such difficulties that come with having CF, it's never easy to keep a smile on your face, but after 31 years there was one thing that always kept smiling no matter what the circumstances were; a scar across her belly. Having mulitple surgeries due to the Cystic Fibrosis, my parents had always considered it her "smile". This is her team's 7th year walking for a Cure for Cystic Fibrosis. I am so excited to be expanding her team with my amazing friends and family. Will you join us? All we need you to do to become a member of my team is click on the "Join our Team" button. Great Strides is a fun, family-friendly event that raises awareness and support for people with CF and their families.
Important note on Attendance at Foundation Events:
Infections can exacerbate CF symptoms and worsen lung function, so we ask attendees at Foundation-sponsored events to observe the following best practices to reduce the risk of germ transmission:
Regularly wash hands with soap and water or with an alcohol-based hand gel.
Cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue or your inner elbow.
Maintain a safe 6-foot distance from anyone with a cold or infection.
To further reduce the risk of cross-infection, the Foundation’s attendance policy recommends that all people with CF maintain a safe 6-foot distance from each other at all times while attending an outdoor Foundation-sponsored event. All Great Strides walks are non-smoking events.
