May is Cystic Fibrosis Awareness Month! In addition to the events we will hold at the hospital on May 3rd, you can show your support for our Cystic Fibrosis patients by joining the St Joseph Hospital Cystic Fibrosis Great Strides Walk Team!
What: Great Strides is a 5K walk around Sloan's Lake in Denver. It's a popular, relaxed event organized by the local chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, raising money for CF research.
When: May 11th, 10 am. Meet up with the Saint Joe's team between 9 and 10 am at our table near registration.
Where: Sloan's Lake Park in Denver. Registration and starting line is on the south side of the lake. Parking is limited, so plan to park on neighborhood streets and walk a couple blocks.
Who: Saint Joe's staff and their families will join the local CF community of families and friends of people with CF. Feel free to bring your baby stroller, kids, or well-behaved dog.
How much: Registration is free, but donations go to CF research, and our team fundraising goal is $1,000.
Team T-Shirts: if you have one from last year, wear it to the walk! If you need a shirt, Respiratory Institute Manager Esther Villarreal has team T-shirts available to purchase for $10. Email Esther, or stop by her office.
What if I can't/ don't want to walk? St. Joe's will have an info table near the registration tent--if you would like to volunteer to man the table please let me or Esther know. You can also donate to any team member to help us meet our fundraising goal!
Join our team and help add tomorrows!
There are approximately 30,000 Americans living with cystic fibrosis, who struggle every day just to breathe. We walk for them. Will you join us? To become a member of our team, just click on the "Join our Team" button. From there, you can make a donation and start fundraising.
By joining our team and making a donation, you are joining a growing group of people committed to finding a cure for cystic fibrosis. We will not rest until all those with cystic fibrosis have a cure. The time is now. Together, we can conquer this disease.
Great Strides is a fun event that provides a fantastic opportunity for family, friends, students, and colleagues to come together to make a difference in the lives of people with CF -- join our team today!
Important note on Attendance at Foundation Events:
Infections can exacerbate CF symptoms and worsen lung function, so we ask attendees at Foundation-sponsored events to observe the following best practices to reduce the risk of germ transmission:
Regularly wash hands with soap and water or with an alcohol-based hand gel.
Cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue or your inner elbow.
Maintain a safe 6-foot distance from anyone with a cold or infection.
To further reduce the risk of cross-infection, the Foundation’s attendance policy recommends that all people with CF maintain a safe 6-foot distance from each other at all times while attending an outdoor Foundation-sponsored event. All Great Strides walks are non-smoking events.
