My Great Strides Story
This is our daughter Lilla. She is ten years old and is living with cystic fibrosis. Although researchers have discovered therapies and drugs that have extended the lives of people with CF, the median age of survival for people with CF is only 40.
The daily battle to fight this disease is expensive, time consuming, and unrelenting. She spends two hours a day doing chest physiotherapy, takes more pills a day than a drug addict and spends several weeks a year in the hospital. Lilla's lung function is at 40%, and she's only ten.
On average it takes $1-billion and ten years to bring a new drug to the market. In the last six years the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation has directly funded the research, development and FDA approval of four new drugs, three of which Lilla currently uses.
