When I was a little girl I met an angel, except at the time I didn’t know she was an angel; though I suppose that’s usually how it works… To me she was a schoolmate, fellow horse-lover, and best friend. Her name was Brianna (Oas) Strand. And we were inseparable. As we got older our interests developed and we slowly grew apart, but our hearts always remained close and we never forgot the time we spent together. I never realized she was an angel, until she was taken back to heaven. Hidden behind her strength, determination, and megawatt smile, was a terrible disease, to which there is currently no cure. Cystic Fibrosis took her away just days before her 29th birthday.
The impact Brianna has had on so many hearts and lives is unbelievable, her kindness and generosity is immeasurable, and even with her passing she continues to inspire and motivate others. One of her contributions on this earth is the hard work she and her family have put into the Great Strides Cystic Fibrosis Walkathon, it is a very important annual event that raises funds to research a cure for the disease that took Brianna.
Over the years my family has been blessed to be a part of this fundraiser, and this year means even more to us because we will be walking in memoriam to Brianna. The best way to honor her memory is to continue to raise awareness and funding, she believed we would see a cure in our lifetime, and she would never want us to stop fighting until CF stands for CURE FOUND!
