It’s that time of year again; May is Cystic Fibrosis (CF) Awareness month and we are supporting the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s (CFF) largest fundraiser – the Great Strides Walk – this time in Dana Point, CA on 4 May.
Moya (now 15) continues the fight against some harmful bacteria. We’ve made some progress, but we are still not where we want to be.
But what keeps us really going is HOPE; the research and new drugs in the pipeline are a real game changer and have the potential to directly impact Moya in the next couple of years. It truly is an exciting time for the CF community and for us. We are so thankful for the CFF and for the companies that tirelessly work towards improving treatments AND finding a cure for CF. The money that is being raised through these walks (and other fundraisers) is making a difference. There are so many medicines being developed, but here are a couple we are especially excited about for Moya in the near term.
As always, we know there are a lot of great charities out there and needs all around. Thank you for considering ours!
Important note on Attendance at Foundation Events:
Infections can exacerbate CF symptoms and worsen lung function, so we ask attendees at Foundation-sponsored events to observe the following best practices to reduce the risk of germ transmission:
Regularly wash hands with soap and water or with an alcohol-based hand gel.
Cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue or your inner elbow.
Maintain a safe 6-foot distance from anyone with a cold or infection.
To further reduce the risk of cross-infection, the Foundation’s attendance policy recommends that all people with CF maintain a safe 6-foot distance from each other at all times while attending an outdoor Foundation-sponsored event. All Great Strides walks are non-smoking events.
