Welcome to my Page
I am excited to bring back Team Tula’s Capes & Tiaras for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundatin (CFF) Colorado Cycle for Life bike ride on Saturday, August 17th! We’ll ride in support of the ground breaking work being done by the amazing CF Community and of course, my niece Tula! Most of you have heard about Tula from me before. She is a truly exceptional human. A beacon of energy and brightness with a fierce stubbornness that enables her to do anything her heart desires. My family and I became involved in the CFF community when Tula was born and diagnosed with this debilitating life threatening disease.
Cystic fibrosis is a progressive, genetic disease that causes persistent lung infections and limits the ability to breathe over time. In people with CF, a defective gene causes a thick, sticky buildup of mucus in the lungs, pancreas, and other organs. In the lungs, the mucus clogs the airways and traps bacteria leading to infections, extensive lung damage, and eventually, respiratory failure. In the pancreas, the mucus prevents the release of digestive enzymes that allow the body to break down food and absorb vital nutrients. Breakthrough treatments (funded by donations like yours!) have added years to the lives of people with cystic fibrosis. Today the median predicted survival age is close to 40; a dramatic improvement from the 1950s, when a child with CF rarely lived long enough to attend elementary school. Fortunately, Tula has been very lucky and continues to live a full and active life and maintains a rigorous daily treatment routine. We are SO CLOSE TO A CURE and your support makes a real difference in the lives of those living with CF!
I had never cycled this far when I did the ride the first time last year and had the time of my life. The phenomenal CFF Colorado Rocky Mountain Chapter team and Cycle for Life committee plan an impressive event with a beautiful route alongside and in the beautiful Rocky Mountain Left Hand Canyon. I am looking for riders to join the team so let me know if you are interested! There are 27, 49 & 65 mile route options. If you are a cycling novice like me, don’t worry, the shorter 27-mile route enables you to soak up the view with less than 1,000 feet of elevation gain!
With heartfelt gratitude for any support you can provide, in the words of the CF Community on our relentless quest for a cure...
Until it’s done!
