Welcome to my Page
Thank you for visiting my page. Three and a half ago, after a hospitalization and several return visits to the Mayo clinic for recurring pnuemonias, we learned that my son Michael has a rare form of Cystic Fibrosis that was not picked up in prior testing. He is 23 now, and we are still learning and adjusting after a very tough few years including now three different multi-month rounds on IVs and other therapies that are now a major part of his life, interrupting his schooling at WSU and leading to many other adjustments emotionally and physically. Michael is doing well at the moment, and while still on IVs and energy/time consuming therapies, managed to resume his studies at WSU Tri-Cities and begin some part-time work.
Real progress has been made in the search for a cure for this devastating, genetic disease, but the lives of people with CF are still cut far too short. Several promising therapies are in Stage II and III trials, with some drugs already approved that are significantly helping prolong patients lives. But help is needed to keep up the momentum of this life-saving research. The CF Foundation has been leading the charge in funding research since the disease is not common enough to attract the big drug companies. The CF Cycle for Life is a unique event that empowers cyclists to take action and demonstrate their fight in finding a cure for cystic fibrosis in a tangible, emotional and powerful way. Michael formed a team two years ago through which we have been able to contribute significantly to the nearly $4M raised through 42 separate Cycle for Life rides each year.
